Hoppy Birthday 2 You

Today I bring you one of the cutest digital images from McMahon Five Designs Blog.  The image and sentiments were created by Kris of Imagine That, one of the Illustrators for McMahon Five Designs.  When I was looking at the image on my laptop my youngest grandson, Levi saw it and said I like that Mom Mom.  So I asked him if he would like me to make him a Birthday card with the image.  Oh you know what the answer was to that question.  Levi will be Four in August.  And its nice to have a card ready for his Birthday.  Got to get out my Envelope Punch and make a matching envelope.

NOTE:  Stop over to the McMahon Five Designs Blog to see more projects created by the Design Team.

DETAILS:  The digital set Party Animals comes in both color and outline (black and white). I decided to use one of the sentiments on the inside of the card.  And I put Levi’s name on the balloon.  You have an option of a blank balloon or one that comes with a saying on it.

All of the white card stock is by Neenah.  The colored card stock is by Recollections.  And the printed paper is by SBW (Scrapbook Wizard) I got at a yard sale.

The two adhesives I used on my card are Inkssentials Glossy Accents by Ranger and Tombow Mono Permanent Adhesive tape runner. And  I used Stickles Glitter Glue  in two colors: Yellow and Lime Green.

All the embellishments: Stars, photo corners and the number “4” are from the Silhouette Store.

I used Spellbinders dies for the two mats on the front and inside of the card.  I must apologize because I cannot remember the name of the dies.  I bought them so long ago and took them out of the original container and did not think to label them.

If you have any questions about my card feel free to contact me at francesb100@gmail.com

Happy Birthday!

My brother-in-law loves cars and he just celebrated his 67th Birthday.  I wanted to make him a card that showed one of his interests.  He loves cars!  So I found a black and white image of a TR7 popular back in the 70s.  Any one who makes their own cards knows how difficult it is to come up with a masculine card.  I should be an expert because I have a husband, 4 grandsons, brother-in-law, 1 nephew, and 4 great nephews.  With all those males in my small family you would think its easy for me to make masculine cards.  However, I still have problems coming up with something appropriate.  Anyway below are two photos of the card I made for my brother-in-law.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Details:  Paper used is double sided and the colors are a very deep brown, tan, & gold.  The car image was black and white but I aged it using a sepia tone in Paint Shop Pro.  The Key is from the Silhouette Store.  Both the key and car image was distressed using Vintage Photo Distress Ink Pad by Ranger (Tim Holtz).  The tie is a polyester ribbon that has a look of suede.  Great for masculine cards.  And the corners inside and out were cut out using my Silhouette Portrait.  The sentiments are hand written.  I wanted to add a real personal touch to it.  Let me know what you think?

Father’s Day Card

My project for the Cutters Creek Design Team is a Father’s Day Card.  Obviously, when I was thinking about the card my Dad was the person who put my creative gears in motion.  I’ve always bought his cards but I thought he would really enjoy getting a card that I handmade.  My Dad is 93 and I didn’t know what he would like so my little brain thought why not use a car as the main image.  And use one that was current the year he was born—1919.  So off I went to Google and found a image that was perfect.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I tweaked the image in Paint Shop Pro and aged it more.  Then I added a frame that looked like its been around for 93 years.  The frame is the border that gives the appearance of an old photo.  The gears (front & inside) and the Sentiment is from the Silhouette store.  I used my Silhouette Portrait to cut them out.  Everything on the card is held together using 3 different adhesives:  Scotch Adhesive Dot Roller (Permanent), Glossy Accents by Inkssentials, and Sakura Pinpoint Roller Pen Quickie Glue (great for thin items like the sentiment).

Note: The Scotch Adhesive Dot Roller is not available in the Cutters Creek  Store but you can contact Kim to see if she can special order it for you.

And if you’ve been playing with the idea of getting a Silhouette I know Kim can special order it for you.  She did for me and then I put it on Layaway for 3 months.  Easy Peasy so they say!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope I tweaked your creative side a little.   Fran

You’re Sew Special

Today’s release from McMahon Five Designs uses a flashback digital image.  I chose a Sewing Basket Image.   I’ve been wanting to use this image for a while because I had several stamps that would make an awesome background to showcase the sewing basket.  Below is where you can purchase the digital image.

I used both Paint Shop Pro and Prisma Colored Pencils to color the image.  Plus I also used the cutest gingham print for the bow on the basket handle.  I did this by selecting the the bow in Paint Shop Pro and filling it with the Gingham Print.  You can buy the gingham papers here:

The Legend Of A Hummingbird

“Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. Hummingbirds open our eyes to the wonder of the world and inspire us to open our hearts to loved ones and friends. Like a hummingbird, we aspire to hover and to savor each moment as it passes, embrace all that life has to offer and to celebrate the joy of everyday. The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation.”

Envelope Punch Board

Photo Tutorial Down and Dirty

(Did it real quick so the photos are not that great)

1.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

2.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

               1. I measured my paper to the 3 3/8 mark on the left edge ruler score line.

               2.  See the # 2 punch mark well that is the edge I measured and punched after I did the #1 scored and punched edge.  Just turn your paper around 180 degrees (instead of the 90 degrees as mentioned on the board).  This process worked better for me.

3. Now go and line up the edges 3 and 4 by making sure the score guide is in the center of the score line.  See photo below.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

4.  Mock up of a 4 x 5 1/2” card to show you how it fits in the envelope before you glue the envelope together.  Remember to think about the embellishments on your card before you make an envelope for the size card you made.  The envelope should be made bigger in order for dimensional embellishment to fit inside the envelope.  The initial envelops you are making while practicing are more for the “CAS” type cards.  Clean and simple.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

5.  Just showing you in the photo below how the card slides in nicely after the envelope is glued together.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

6.  Here is the envelope glued together and you can see the top flap edges meet perfectly on the edge of the envelope (does that make sense).  I hope the picture shows what I am trying to say.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Just a down and dirty quick photo tutorial for you to see how I made my envelope.  And I will say this.  I did this envelope once and it turned out.  But I made two different sizes earlier and I had to do them twice before I got it right.  I have no clue what I did wrong.  The only thing is your measurements must be exact and you must take your time.  And use old paper while practicing.  I have old Christmas paper and old typing paper that I used.  I did not want to mess up my good paper.  Feel free to ask any questions.  I will do my best to help you.

Hip Hip Hooray!

Today for Cutters Creek I did a Birthday Card.  On occasion time just doesn’t allow you to just sit down and color an image that you want to use on your card.  So I went to my faithful box to see what I had stashed away. And there it was I colored a Magnolia image, Tilda over 2 years ago.  That’s right 2 years ago!  I was just learning the techniques of using Prisma Colored Pencils and Gamsol (Mineral Spirits).

I looked at it for a few minutes and said its perfect for what I want to do.  I used some digital papers that went well with the colors I used on Tilda (mostly lime green and warm gray).  I added dark brown color to her hair and gave her big rosy cheeks.  Everything on Tilda was colored with Prisma Colored Pencils except for the skin I used Copic Markers.  And I used my fine point scissors by Elizabeth Crafts.  Let me tell you these scissors are awesome.  I cut out between Tilda’s hair and arms with no problems (made for fussy cutting).  You just take your time and let the scissors do the work for you.

Now I am thinking what sized of a card do I want.  I chose a 5-1/2” square card.  I rounded the corners of the card with the Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper. Then I went further in my stash and used some white flowers and colored them with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Squeezed Lemonade and Shabby Shutters.  Now you know I just had to add some bling so I used Stickles Glitter Glue in Lime Green and Yellow.

I kept looking at Tilda's posture and said I need a cute sentiment that will go with her posture.  So I went shopping at the Silhouette Store and found the perfect sentiment (Hip Hip Hooray!).  I glued the sentiment on green checkered cloud shape which is an external offset of the sentiment done with the Silhouette. And on the inside the sentiment will be “Happy Birthday” also cut on the Silhouette Portrait.

The large flower in the corner is the one I colored with distress ink and I added two leaves made from ribbon (very light celery green) from my stash.  You know it sounds like I lot of work to do for one card.  But if you have the right products and tools your card goes together so quickly.  What takes long is waiting for the Stickles to dry :)

Golf is a day spent in a round of strenuous idleness. ~William Wordsworth

McMahon Five Designs

I know very little about playing golf.  But I do know what a hole-in-one is when a golfer “aces” it.  So why did I pick the golfing image to be the star of my card?  Well we know Father’s Day is coming up. Birthdays just around the corner.  And do I have any masculine cards made for the men in my life?  No I do not.  So today I bring you my day spent in strenuous idleness and present my hole-in-one Card.  And I love Vintage images.  More about the Golfer Image and my Card is below the photos.

Comes in both JPG and PNG Formats

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I colored this image using two methods: I used Paint Shop Pro to color the clothes because I wanted to get a look of texture. I was aiming for a tweedy look and I got pretty close to it. The golf bag, golf clubs and shading on the clothes were colored with Prisma Colored pencils.  The skin was colored with Lyra Skin Tone pencils.  I did a little research and back in the Victorian era the clubs were made of wood so that is why I colored them brown.  And I also colored the bag in two shades of brown for a nice leather look.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The solid color paper on the Front and inside of the card was made using Paint Shop Pro.  I selected the tan color from the argyle print paper.  I filled the color into a 6” x 6” square and printed it out so I could cut them to the size I needed.

*NEW* Argyles & Plaids DP

PROMO Argyles n Plaids

These papers are so awesome and the colors just perfect  for making masculine cards.  The colors print out perfectly.  If you do not have a lot of masculine papers you just need to add these to your stash.

Additional Details:  Neenah Paper used for the image and printed argyle & tan prints.  Used two different Oval Nestabilities (Classic Ovals Large & Mega Ovals Large) for the front and inside of the card.  Decorative Tape Set by My Mind’s Eye (Blue) for the front and inside of card.  Glossy Essentials to hold it all together (love it).  Buttons given to me by my hubby (blue and brown).  Brown & white Twine to hold and embellish the buttons.  Blue thread for the zigzag embellishment on the front of the card done with the Sew Mini by Janome. The Distrezz-it-All tool to distress the papers.  The small Event Record card is from my Vintage stash and I just wrote on it.  And last but not least I used Vintage Photo Distress ink pad to distress the card and embellishments.

I would love if you visited the McMahon Five Designs Blog to see more awesome projects created by the Design Team.  So much inspiration that will tweak your creative side.

What’s Cookin’?

I think this is the first time in a very long time I had no clue what type of greeting card I was going to make.  So I checked my files and found a digital image by Mo Manning I had for a long time and never used it.  So I dusted it off and colored it with my Prisma Colored Pencils.  Once I started coloring my mojo was coming back!

(Those of you that use Prisma Colored Pencils and the Gamsol technique here are the colors I used to color the image: Sienna Brown, Terra Cotta, Black Grape, Marine Green, Warm Grey, Dark Brown, and Poppy Red).

(I didn’t use  Prisma Colored Pencils for the skin. I used Skin Tones by Lyra which comes with 12 beautiful skin tone shades).

My card base is made from plain white card stock using Spellbinders Grand Nestibilities S4-161 Labels one.  Then I used Spellbinders Nestabilities Labels one for my image and the label behind the image.  The labels were cut using my Cuttlebug.

All the flowers surrounding my image on the front and inside of the card was made with two punches from EK Success called Retro Flower.

The flourishes in each of the two corners on the front of the card were created using a die from Memory Box called Elegant Scrollwork.  The flourishes were also cut out using my Cuttlebug.

Papers:  Green paper is from the 6x6 Paper Pad called This & That by Lori Whitlock.  The Orange paper is by Core’dinations.  And the Purple paper is from my scraps stash.

I used two beautiful colors of Stickles Glue by Ranger called Lavender and Distress Stickles called Wild Honey.

Inside my card I used the same papers as the outside.  The sentiment was typed in WORD sized at 28 point; I colored the font using a color from WORD that closely matched the orange paper.  Then I used a Spellbinders Shapeabilities called Ribbon Banners.  The printed sentiment fit exactly on the banner I chose to use (there are 4 in the set).

I used two types of adhesives for my card:  Glue dots (super-strength) by Glue Dots and Glossy Accents by Ranger.

You can get the following items from the Cutters Creek Store:

This and That Charming Paper Pack Echo Park

Core’dinations Paper Packs

Stickles Glitter Glue

Distress Stickles Glitter Glue

Glue Dots

Inkssentials Glossy Accents Precision Tip

If there are any items that I used and you would love to purchase them just give Kim Bush a holler and she may be able to special order them for you.  You can contact Kim here.
